Essentials of Nursing Care: Chronicity tests the concepts and principles related to the application of the nursing roles of provider and manager of care and member of profession when applying the nursing process to the care of patients across the life span who are experiencing chronic illness, disability, or end of life with a primary health concern of comfort, pain, or sensory impairment and whose primary base of care is a community setting. Critical thinking skills and caring behaviors needed to provide and manage care for these patients are stressed. Evidence-based nursing care and standards for nursing practice, as well as ethical, legal, and regulatory concerns specific to these patients are also addressed.

For the exam, you will be expected to demonstrate the ability to
  • apply nursing process with culturally divoerse patients across the life span to promote health and wellness and manage illness when the health concern is
    • comfort,
    • pain,
    • sensory impairment,
    • chronic illness,
    • end of life
    • a community-based setting;
  • incorporate knowledge from theoretical frameworks using principles, concepts, and theories from the natural, social, and nursing sciences to choose among alternative solutions to make clinical decisions when caring for these patients;
  • use therapeutic communication and demonstrate caring and cultural sensitivity when interacting with these patients;
  • apply concepts from interpreted research to improve effectiveness of nursing care; and
  • implement the roles of provider and manager of care and member of profession.
