Humanities measures one's general knowledge of literature, art and music. It covers the material for a two-semester college level course. Because it is a two semester course, one should be prepared to study twice as much material as a one-semester course. Questions appear from many different areas including poetry, prose, philosophy, history of art, music, dance and theater. There are questions from classical to contemporary periods.
Knowledge and skills required for the exam include:
- Factual information such as names, works, etc.
- The ability to link characteristics of writers, artists, schools, or periods of time with techniques, rhyme schemes, styles, etc.
- Understanding and interpretation of passages of literature and artistic works
This course covers the following areas:
- Fine Arts
- Visual arts (painting, sculpture)
- Music
- Performing arts (film, dance)
- Architecture
- Literature
- Drama
- Poetry
- Fiction
- Nonfiction (including philosophy)
