Principles of Public Speaking


Principles of Public Speaking measures the candidate’s ability to prepare and deliver various types of speeches according to the type of audience anticipated.

The exam consists of two parts, and the candidate must pass both parts:

Part One: 84 multiple-choice questions with no time limit that includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
  • Preparing the introduction, body, and conclusion of a speech
  • Speeches to inform or to persuade
  • Using appropriate language and style
  • Speech delivery (pronunciation, articulation, voice)
  • Controlling nervousness

Part Two: A four-minute persuasive speech. The candidate will have 10 minutes in which to prepare the speech, and the speech will be recorded on an audiocassette tape.

  • Criticism and Evaluation
