Transition to the Registered Professional Nurse Role assesses knowledge and skills related to RN professional role development. Emphasis is placed on managerial, supervisory, and delegatory functions essential to the RN role.

Theory and principles related to differentiation between associate-, baccalaureate-, and graduate-level nursing roles are tested along with factors affecting the health care delivery system; role functioning of interdisciplinary teams; and legal, ethical, and educational spects of current nursing practice. Influences of nursing history, nursing organizations, and regulatory bodies impacting nursing functions in the delivery of care are also examined.

After completing this course, you will be expected to demonstrate the ability to

• describe roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse prepared at the associate degree level;
• differentiate associate, baccalaureate, and graduate advanced practice nursing roles;
• apply concepts from interpreted research to improve effectiveness of nursing care;
• apply multiple strategies of communication to
  -- provide or supervise provision of care for culturally diverse patients across the life span,
  -- function as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, and
  -- the delegation of care for culturally diverse patients and care providers;
• demonstrate caring behaviors in all nursing roles; and
• apply ethical, legal, and regulatory standards to all professional roles.

The examination consists of approximately 160 four-option multiple-choice questions to be completed within three (3) hours. If you are testing at Pearson Professional Centers, your exam will be delivered by computer. You will enter your answers on the computer using either the keyboard or the mouse. The system used for the computer-delivered test is designed to be as user-friendly as possible, even for those with little or not computer experience. Instructions provided on screen are similar to those you would receive in a paper examination booklet.
